Testing and Drive Validation Before Placing Into Service.
Wondering if your recently purchased drive is healthy? Avoid downtime later in the warranty period by checking the drive health now. We've tested the drives before shipping them to you, but sometimes damage can be caused by the shipping process. To check the health of your drive, there are two options we suggest:
- First, download and install the Seatools program www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/
- Choose your language and accept the terms of service
- Select the extended test tab, then chose either long self or long generic test
If your drive passes a ‘Long Drive Self Test’ and/or a ‘Long Generic’ test, the drive can be considered healthy and does not have any issues. If your drive fails the Seatools Long Drive Self Test or Long Generic test, please contact us immediately with the failure details so we can proceed with an RMA.
Alternatively, for monitoring drive health and for quick health checks, we suggest using the free trial of HD Sentinel: www.hdsentinel.com- To use HD Sentinel, simply install it, and the landing page will list all of your drives and their health.
- Click a drive to get more details on their health and status.
- If your drive displays less than 100% health in HD Sentinel, please contact us immediately for warranty assistance.
You can check SMART details with HD Sentinel as well. On the SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) page the list of SMART attributes are displayed for the selected disk drive.
